About Navarro River Music
NavarroRiverMusic.com is the website of Marcia Sloane. Marcia has enjoyed a diverse musical career as a classical player and improviser, arranger, and composer in collaboration with dancers, actors, filmmakers, visual artists, and musicians. She grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii and started playing cello at the age of nine. A math major turned music major in college, she dropped out to join Don Ho’s Waikiki orchestra, and later earned her degree in India Studies at Sonoma State University studying north Indian classical music. In the 1980s she played with the acoustic fusion band Ancient Future and traveled and performed with the Caravan Stage Company in eastern Canada. Marcia was a founding member of Symphony of the Redwoods on the Mendocino Coast in 1983. From 2004-2017 she co-directed Navarro River String Camp, a chamber music retreat for adult string players. She has recorded several CDs including "Cello Drones for Tuning and Improvisation", used by musicians around the world. She resides in Mendocino, California where she performs, maintains a teaching studio, and collaborates on a variety of musical projects.
